KNOW WHAT GOES GOOD WITH THAT?
In these posts, we often inform our readers about the many things on the island to do, see and learn. For the most part, we like to group things into categories, whether that be natural sights, restaurants, etc. When there are so many great things on Block Island, it just helps to group things together!
However, we are reminded of a saying from two wise men way back in the 1970’s: “You got your peanut butter on my chocolate! / You got your chocolate in my peanut butter!”
Sometimes when you take two completely different things and put them together, you get an entirely new experience greater than the sum of its parts. With that in mind, we’ve polled some friends and family to help us build of list of eight Block Island combinations you should try out on your next trip!
THE BLOCK ISLAND FERRY AND A BLOODY MARY
We don’t mean to toot our own horn (pun intended), but our Bloody Marys are pretty, dang good! Whether you’re taking the Hi Speed or the Traditional ferry, there’s always time to enjoy one before you reach the island.
GREENWAY TRAILS & THE GLASS FLOAT PROJECT
New Shoreham’s green spaces are some of the most spectacular views in the area. The only thing that can make it better is…a scavenger hunt! Keep an eye out for these unique glass souvenirs hidden along the trails.
SOUTHEAST LIGHTHOUSE AND A LOBSTER ROLL
The Southeast Lighthouse is stunning example of 19th century New England maritime architecture. You might be feeling a little puckish after view the building, though. Luckily for you, Southeast Light Delights is literally a stone’s throw for the lighthouse! Be sure to pick up one of their world-famous lobster rolls!
THE MOHEGAN BLUFFS AND A BLOCK ISLAND FERRY BEACH TOWEL
The stairwell down the Mohegan Bluffs is one of the most photographed areas on the island. Though, once you’ve reached the beach below and gone for a swim, how are you going to dry yourself off? Luckily for you the Block Island Ferry as a beautiful beach towel now available in our store!
THE OAR RESTAURANT AND A MUDSLIDE
There are a lot of great places to pick up a mudslide on the island. But for our money, we think the best is over at The Oar. Make sure to stop by and enjoy one before you board the ferry!
FISH & CHIPS AND LIVE MUSIC AT THE NATIONAL
Eating fried food in a concert setting is usually frowned upon. However, if you’re doing it at The National, it’s not only accepted but encouraged! Grab yourself a fish & chips platter and enjoy some live music out on their patio!
CALAVERAS TACOS AND A BOOK FROM ISLAND BOUND!
What two folded things make a great pair on the beach? If you said tacos and books, you’re right but that was a REALLY lucky guess. Grab some authentic Mexican cuisine over at Calaveras, a best-seller over at Island Bound and settle down in the sand!
SUNSETS AND THE SPRING HOUSE LAWN
A day in Block Island isn’t complete without a view of the beautiful sunset on the sea. Enjoy this spectacle (along with some delicious beverages) over on the lawn of the Spring House Hotel!
These are just a sample of the different things you can experience on Block Island. But there are many, many more! So come on over and find some new combinations yourself. We’d love to hear what you found! Sail Away…
